PACE Canada Announces “Jamaica Strong” Contest

PACE Canada is pleased to invite you to participate in our newly announced competition to celebrate 60 years of Jamaica’s independence. In celebration of the independence we are building the competition around the theme of “Jamaica Strong”

In addition to celebrating 60 years of Jamaica’s Independence, the contest aims to show the strength of the country and its people. Entries are being solicited from PACE sponsored Schools, and each School can submit only one entry which should represent the entire School Team. Entries should demonstrate the theme of Jamaica Strong and can take any form that the School Team prefers to create. For example, the School Team could create artwork, or a dance, recite a poem or story, perform a skit or a song, demonstrate a sport or an aspect of Jamaican culture, or any other concept they choose.

While the format style is chosen by each School, the content should show what Jamaica Strong means to the School Team. Entries should be created around Student ideas should be a collaborative and fun experience for all, and should be kept to one page in length (if written) or no more than 2 minutes (if in video format). A picture can be taken of any artwork created.

The criteria includes the following:
• Each School can submit one entry which should represent the entire School Team.
• Entries should demonstrate the theme of Jamaica Strong and can take any form that the “School Team” prefers to create. For example, the School Team could create artwork, or a dance, recite a poem or story, perform a skit or a song, demonstrate a sport or an aspect of Jamaican culture,2 or any other concept they choose.
• Entries should be created around Student ideas and should be a collaborative and fun experience for all. Suggested Jamaica Strong themes can include fashion, health, spirit, sports, food, culture, relationships, career or other areas as determined by schools or members.
• Entries should be kept to one page in length (if written) or no more than 2 minutes (if in video format). A picture can be taken of any artwork created.
• The contest will start October 15, 2022 and all entries submitted by December 1,2022.

Similar submissions will also be accepted from PACE Canada school sponsors whose Adopt-A-School donations have been fully paid up since April 1, 2022 (the start of the PACE Canada fiscal year).

  • Entries close: December  1, 2022
  • Judges’ Decision: December 8, 2022

5 Grand prizes will be awarded to the best entries received from schools in all Parishes plus 2 runner up schools, and 3 members. Grand prizes will be a catered lunch at each winning school by a local restaurant (details to be announced once the winner is chosen). In addition, there will be prizes for 2 runner-up schools

A special event will be organized in Jamaica through partnership with the ECC, and in Toronto to formally announce and celebrate the winners in December 2022.
